United Methodist Women (UMW)

The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the Church.

(Book of Discipline 2008)

The St. Luke UMW is comprised of the following Circles:

United Methodist Men (UMM)

United Methodist Men exists to declare the centrality of Christ in every man's life.  Men's ministry leads to the spiritual growth of men and effective discipleship.  The purpose is served as men are called to model the servant leadership of Jesus Christ.

(Book of Discipline 2008)

The United Methodist Men's group provides an opportunity for all men to serve in a number of ministries at St. Luke and in the community.  A St. Luke tradition is the breakfast served to the congregation by UMM after the Easter Sunrise Service.  Contact Fred Lynn if you are interested in joining this ministry.

Sunday School

Several adult Sunday school classes meet year-round at 9:45 a.m. for one hour of study. On special occasions, classes are combined for guest speakers or group fellowship. Sunday School classes are interest-oriented. You are cordially invited to visit several classes and choose the one that best meets your needs.

Adult Fellowship Class is a class of older men and women who use the International Lesson Series as curriculum.  A group of 14 team teachers rotate Sundays and challenge the class through study and discussion.  The class meets across from the Choir Room.

Bible Study Class meets on the Adult Education Hall, across from the kitchen.  The class welcomes couples and singles ages 50 and up who enjoy reading, studying and discussing the Bible and Methodist beliefs as they relate to everyday life.

Christian Study Class meets on the Adult Education Hall, across from the Church Parlor.  The class is comprised of couples and singles ages 60 and up, who use the International Lesson Series to emphasize study, fellowship, outreach and support to all members.

Covenant Class meets in the Church Parlor on the Adult Education Hall.  The participants, couples and singles ages 30 and older, study the Bible as it relates to everyday life.  Topics include marriage, relationships, children and growth as Christians.

Foundations meets in the Conference Room across from the Church Office.  Looking for a new place to connect? Foundations is a multigenerational class where topics oscillate between serious scripture study and contemporary topics.

Seekers Class meets in the Adult Education Hall, across from the Fellowship Hall.  The Bible is the main source of study in this class.  We encourage class participation but if you prefer, you can quietly sit and listen.  Our goal is to study the Bible in chronological order and apply those teachings to our everyday life.

Upper Room Class meets in the Adult Education Hall, across from the Fellowship Hall.  A class for "young at heart" couples and singles, this class provides lively discussion and study through the use of class-selected books and videos by religious authors such as Max Lucado, Beth Moore and Bill Bouknight.  In addition, the International Lesson Series is available.  Class members serve as facilitators on a rotational basis.  This class shares the love of Christ by supporting its members as well as the entire church membership, local, national and international missions.

Adult Church Groups

In addition to the United Methodist Women (UMW) and United Methodist Men (UMM), St. Luke offers the following opportunities for fellowship:

Ladies Bible Study:  Lead by Youth Pastor Shelly Holder, this group includes women of all ages.  The Bible is the main source of study with selected study guides.  Currently the study guide is "Invitation to the Psalms" by Michael Jinkins.  The study is held in the conference room located across from the church office at 10 AM each Monday morning.  This group also takes a few trips a year to places of interest such as Mepkin Abbey in Moncks Corner, S.C.  Feel free to join us on any Monday morning.

XYZ Club:  The eXtra Years of Zest Club is made up of men and women over the age of 50.  They meet on a monthly basis to have a fellowship meal or travel to an interesting location.  This group is well known for their service and good fellowship.  Contact Pat Huff for additional information.

Wednesday Prayer Breakfast:  Everyone is invited to a Prayer Breakfast at 7:00 am on Wednesdays.  The group meets in the Parlor for a time of fellowship and prayer.

Prayer Shawl GroupThis fellowship group meets weekly and knits/crochets prayer shawls to be given to anyone with a special need for prayer.  This group is open to those who would like to learn and the advanced handwork experts, or those seeking fellowship.  To date, the Prayer Shawl Group has gifted over 530 prayer shawls.

Weight Watchers:  A representative from the Weight Watchers organization comes to St. Luke once a week for “weigh-in” and help with nutritious meals.  This group is open to all who would like to participate.
