A SPECIAL REPORT:
ST. LUKE YOUTH FED JESUS SUNDAY NIGHT
In the Middle School Sunday School class on Sunday, we talked about practicing our faith. The discussion led to the difference between a doctor’s practice and practicing or rehearsing for a specific event. The latter focuses on preparing for a specific occasion, whereas; a practice, such as a doctor’s practice, is more focused on a life’s work. Which should our faith be? Preparing for a one time event or a lifelong endeavor? Of course, when we are practicing our faith it is a lifelong process and journey. And certainly that practice moves us beyond the four walls of our church. Let me give you an example where the youth group was practicing their life’s work.
St. Luke designated the month of August as Hartsville Food Bank month, so this past Sunday evening at UMYF, we had five teams go out and collect food items and nonperishable goods for the Hartsville Food Bank. All together we collected 769 items. I would like to say thank you to the adults who made Sunday night possible: thank you Kellie Braddock, Barry Brown, Jennifer Brown, Kelly Bryant, Elizabeth Gainey, Wanda Hassler, Mandy Ringer and Margaret Vance. A good time was had by all and we had the opportunity to live out Matthew 25:35-45. “For when I was hungry, you gave me something to eat; when I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink…” When quizzed, Jesus was asked the question when did we see you hungry or in need of drink? Jesus’ answer was profound. When you saw someone in need and you took care of their need, you were taking care of me. So thank you to the St. Luke young people and adults who fed Jesus on Sunday night. Be blessed in your service of the Lord. This is where your passion is put into your life’s practice.
Grace and Peace,
Shelly
